At the north end of Nehalem, this sprawling shoreline of nothing but sand goes on for over two miles. A good two miles down the sand spit you may find spots to watch seals rather closely. But don't get too close: bothering them in their natural habitat is illegal. Or you can rent your own horse ride at in the park. Stand at the end of the spit and you'll spot the Jetty Fishery, where you can actually arrange for a boat ride back to the mainland. There’s a whole hidden world of maritime fun here. Highlights include their new restaurant, fishing and crabbing options galore, and the annual Crab Derby – which, among other prizes, includes a giveaway for a vasectomy. |
