(Newport, Oregon) - The fourth Annual Be Jeweled, a vintage, collectible and costume jewelry sale, will be held at the Newport Recreation Center, Saturday, January 29th from 9 am to 2 pm.
Donations to Be Jeweled have come from all over the U.S. A donor in Ft. Townsend, Washington gave over 200 items. The Bunko Babes from Baltimore, Maryland dumped their jewelry boxes and shipped 560 pieces to help. Each year, daughters from all over the county donate bags of jewelry in memory of their mothers.
Be Jeweled celebrates recycling and offers customers a chance to buy precious jewelry at great prices. Donations include 180 working watches, 55 vintage pins and a fabulous collection of clip or non-pierced earrings, many of which are vintage. With thousands of donated pieces, Be Jeweled offers hand-beaded and ethnic jewelry, opal and sapphire rings, pearl and gemstone necklaces, malachite, turquoise, lapis, and jade jewelry, lead crystal earrings, signed pendants and bracelets, 14 kt gold chains, and sterling silver sets, to name just a few. A huge selection of craft jewelry and components will be available.
This year, Be Jeweled, a benefit for Food Share of Lincoln County, is presented by the News Times. Modeled on a similar event on the East Coast, it's a one-of-a-kind sale in Oregon.
“There's treasures here for everyone from casual costume to fine jewelry,” said Linda Neigebauer of Nye Cottage Beads. “You can't beat the prices. Many items are between $1 and $25.” Donations are still coming in to Nye Cottage Beads where jewelry from community donations have been sorted and collected all year.
As an added bonus, all shoppers will receive Be Jeweled Coupon sheets (merchant coupon/discounts). Out-of-the-area and local patrons alike will have a chance to enjoy free or discounted items.
Doors will close at 11:15 and open again at Noon for a half-price sale.
Nancy Smith, Food Share Director, believes that the charm of Be Jeweled lies in its uniqueness. “It's a great way to help feed the hungry by donating jewelry you no longer wear and shopping for treasures new to you.”
This year, more than ever, Be Jeweled is an important fundraiser for Food Share. All proceeds will be used to help relieve the major problem of food insecurity in Lincoln County.
